The Cyprus Chess Championship 2017 that takes place on May 6 until June 11, 2017, is the strongest tournament held in Cyprus which determines the new Cyprus Chess Champion.
Twelve of the best players in Cyprus will come to Larnaca to play in the Championship and battle it out in a single round-robin over 11 games. The winner will be crowned Cyprus Chess Champion 2017.
The twelve participants in the Cyprus Chess Championship will be Konstantinos Michaelides of Larnaca, the winner of last year’s championship; Paris Klerides. Antonis Antoniou, and Pavlos Constantinou of Larnaca, and Panikos Savva of Nicosia, who qualified based on their ratings; Arsenios Hadjikyriacou of Larnaca, Ioannis Damianou of Nicosia, Stelios Abatzidis of Limassol, Costas Hadjiyiannis, Christos Charalambous, Kypros Evangelides, and Andreas Georgiou of Nicosia, who qualified based on their performances at the Cyprus Chess Open 2017.
The field includes 5 of the top 10 players in the FIDE Active Cyprus Ranking List. A total of six players are titled (2 FM, 3 CM, 1 AGM).
